Color The Mocking of Christ

A small panel from the larger work,
Read more about Duccio's work.
Description of Coloring Page: Jesus before Caiaphas, spears, staffs, spitting, unrighteous judgement, Roman court, Peter denies Christ on the far left when woman recognizes him as a follower of Jesus, rooster crows, Jesus bound, by Duccio

The mocking of Jesus occurred several times, after his trial and before his crucifixion according to the canonical gospels of the New Testament. It is considered part of Jesus' passion.
According to the gospel narratives, Jesus had predicted that he would be mocked (Matthew 20:19, Mark 10:34, and Luke 18:32). The mocking of Christ took place in three stages: immediately following his trial, immediately following his condemnation by Pontius Pilate, and when he was being crucified.

Entry Into Jerusalem (Sarcophagus)

Description of The Coloring Page: donkey, sculpture, Jesus rides a donkey, disciple, garments at Jesus' feet

In the accounts of the four canonical Gospels, Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem takes place in the days before the Last Supper, marking the beginning of his Passion.
Crowds gather around Jesus and believe in him in John 12:9-11 after he raised Lazarus from the dead, and the next day the multitudes that had gathered for the feast in Jerusalem welcome Jesus as he enters Jerusalem.
In Matthew 21:1-11, Mark 11:1-11, Luke 19:28-44, and John 12:12-19, Jesus descends from the Mount of Olives towards Jerusalem, and the crowds lay their clothes on the ground to welcome him as he triumphantly enters Jerusalem.
Christians celebrate Jesus' entry into Jerusalem as Palm Sunday, a week before Easter Sunday.

Jesus cleanses the temple coloring sheet

Description of The Coloring Page: money changers and merchandisers are driven from God's house of worship, coins on the ground, temple columns

The cleansing of the Temple narrative tells of Jesus expelling the merchants and the money changers from the Temple, and occurs in all four canonical gospels of the New Testament.
In this account, Jesus and his disciples travel to Jerusalem for Passover, where Jesus expels the merchants and money changers from the Temple, accusing them of turning the Temple into "a den of thieves" through their commercial activities. In the Gospel of John Jesus refers to the Temple as "my Father's house", thus, making a claim to being the Son of God.
The narrative occurs near the end of the Synoptic Gospels (at Matthew 21:12–17, Mark 11:15–19, and Luke 19:45–48) and near the start in the Gospel of John (at John 2:13–16). Some scholars believe that these refer to two separate incidents, given that the Gospel of John also includes more than one Passover.

Jairus' child brought to life coloring sheet

Click to download the largest size.

Description of The Coloring Page: Jesus holds the hand of Jairus' child and wakes her from a dead sleep, crowd of witnesses

The record of the daughter of Jairus is a combination of miracles of Jesus in the Gospels (Mark 5:21–43, Matthew 9:18–26, Luke 8:40–56).
The story immediately follows the exorcism at Gerasa. Jairus, a patron or ruler of a Galilee synagogue, had asked Jesus to heal his 12-year-old daughter, who in Mark's and Luke's accounts was dying, and in Matthew's simplified account, had already died.
As they were traveling to Jairus' house, a sick woman in the crowd touched Jesus' cloak and was healed of her sickness. Jesus turned round to the woman and said "You have been healed of your sins have faith in the Lord".(see Christ healing the bleeding woman). Moments later, a messenger arrived with the news that Jairus' daughter had died, and he was advised not to trouble Jesus any further. However, Jesus responded:
Be not afraid, only believe. (Mark 5:36)
Jesus continued to the house, where he informed all those present that the girl was not dead but asleep. He then went upstairs and restored the little girl to life. In Mark's account, the Aramaic phrase "Talitha Koum" (transliterated into Greek as ταλιθα κουμ and meaning, "Little girl, I say to you, get up!") is attributed to Jesus.
The combined stories have been used as an example of intercalation, where one incident is inserted within another, linked in this case by the connection between the 12-year ailment and the 12-year-old girl.

The Last Supper Window at Chartres Cathedral

Description of Coloring Page: stained glass window coloring page, Chartres Cathedral window, The Last Supper or Passover

"While the Israelites were still in the land of Egypt, the LORD gave the following instructions to Moses and Aaron: From now on, this month will be the first month of the year for you. Announce to the whole community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each family must choose a lamb or a young goat for a sacrifice, one animal for each household. If a family is too small to eat a whole animal, let them share with another family in the neighborhood. Divide the animal according to the size of each family and how much they can eat. The animal you select must be a one-year-old male, either a sheep or a goat, with no defects. Take special care of this chosen animal until the evening of the fourteenth day of this first month. Then the whole assembly of the community of Israel must slaughter their lamb or young goat at twilight. They are to take some of the blood and smear it on the sides and top of the door frames of the houses where they eat the animal. That same night they must roast the meat over a fire and eat it along with bitter salad greens and bread made without yeast. Do not eat any of the meat raw or boiled in water. The whole animal--including the head, legs, and internal organs--must be roasted over a fire. Do not leave any of it until the next morning. Burn whatever is not eaten before morning. These are your instructions for eating this meal: Be fully dressed, wear your sandals, and carry your walking stick in your hand. Eat the meal with urgency, for this is the LORD's Passover. On that night I will pass through the land of Egypt and strike down every firstborn son and firstborn male animal in the land of Egypt. I will execute judgment against all the gods of Egypt, for I am the LORD! But the blood on your doorposts will serve as a sign, marking the houses where you are staying. When I see the blood, I will pass over you. This plague of death will not touch you when I strike the land of Egypt. This is a day to remember. Each year, from generation to generation, you must celebrate it as a special festival to the LORD. This is a law for all time." Exodus 12:1-14 New Living Translation

"As they were eating, Jesus took some bread and blessed it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, "Take this and eat it, for this is my body. And he took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. He gave it to them and said, "Each of you drink from it, for this is my blood, which confirms the covenant between God and his people. It is poured out as a sacrifice to forgive the sins of many. Mark my words--I will not drink wine again until the day I drink it new with you in my Father's Kingdom. Then they sang a hymn and went out to the Mount of Olives. On the way, Jesus told them, "Tonight all of you will desert me. For the Scriptures say, 'God will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.'" Matthew 26:26-31 New Living Translation

The Last Supper Carved Into Wood

Description of The Coloring Page: Coptic carving on a wooden panel, Last Supper, described in all four canonical Gospels (Mt. 26:17-30, Mk. 14:12-26, Lk. 22:7-39 and Jn. 13:1-17:26

The Last Supper is the final meal that, in the Gospel accounts, Jesus shared with his Apostles in Jerusalem before his crucifixion. The Last Supper is commemorated by Christians especially on Maundy Thursday. Moreover, the Last Supper provides the scriptural basis for the Eucharist, also known as "Holy Communion" or "The Lord's Supper".
The First Epistle to the Corinthians contains the earliest known mention of the Last Supper. The four canonical Gospels all state that the Last Supper took place towards the end of the week, after Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem and that Jesus and his Apostles shared a meal shortly before Jesus was crucified at the end of that week. During the meal Jesus predicts his betrayal by one of the Apostles present, and foretells that before the next morning, Peter will deny knowing him.
The three Synoptic Gospels and the First Epistle to the Corinthians include the account of the institution of the Eucharist in which Jesus takes bread, breaks it and gives it to the Apostles, saying: "This is my body which is given for you". The Gospel of John does not include this episode, but tells of Jesus washing the feet of the Apostles, giving the new commandment "to love one another as I have loved you", and has a detailed farewell discourse by Jesus, calling the Apostles who follow his teachings "friends and not servants", as he prepares them for his departure.
Scholars have looked to the Last Supper as the source of early Christian Eucharist traditions. Others see the account of the Last Supper as derived from 1st-century eucharistic practice as described by Paul in the mid-50s.
The Last Supper served the dual purpose of venerating Passover, the escape of the Jews from slavery in Egypt, and the establishment of a new tradition, Christianity.

The Anointing of Jesus

Description of The Coloring Page: "in the home of Simon the Leper", table, food, synagogue outside a window, hosts, wall paper, very detailed patterns, Jesus seated while Mary of Bethany pours out expensive perfume on both his head and feet. In western paintings Mary is traditionally shown as wiping the perfume onto Christ's feet with her own hair.  This was considered in Christ's time on earth to be a very extravagant gesture, only reserved for a beloved royal king. This story is told in all four Gospels: Matthew 26:6-13, Mark 14:3-9, Luke 7:36-50 and John 12:1-8

The anointing of Jesus is one of the relatively few events reported by each of the four Gospels, although the details of the accounts differ. All report the anointing of Jesus with expensive perfume by a woman, who pours the contents of an alabastron jar of "nard" (or spikenard), a very expensive perfume, over Jesus. The anointing angers some of the onlookers because the perfume could have been sold for a year's wages—which the Gospel of Mark enumerates as 300 denarii—and the money given to the poor. Matthew's gospel states that the "disciples were indignant" and John's states that it was Judas who was most offended. John adds that he was bothered because he (Judas) was a thief and desired the money for himself. Jesus is described as justifying the action of the woman by stating that the poor will always exist, and can be helped whenever desired.
The identification of the woman by Luke as one "who lived a sinful life" and by John as Mary of Bethany played a part in the long-standing identification of Mary Magdalene as a former prostitute by the Western church, once all three figures were thought to be the same "composite Magdalene".
The honorific anointing with perfume is an action frequently mentioned in other literature from the time; however using long hair to dry Jesus's feet, as in John and Luke, is not recorded elsewhere, and should be regarded as an exceptional gesture.

Transfiguration Window at Chartres Cathedral

Click to enlarge, download, print and color.

Description of The Coloring Page: the Transfiguration of Jesus, Elijah and Moses speak with Jesus in His transfiguration, geometric designs, window located at Chartres, staying awake, sleepy apostles

The Transfiguration of Jesus is an episode in the New Testament in which Jesus is transfigured (or metamorphosed) and becomes radiant in glory upon a mountain. The Synoptic Gospels (Matthew 17:1–9, Mark 9:2–8, Luke 9:28–36) describe it, and 2 Peter 1:16–18 refers to it; it has also been hypothesized that the Gospel of John alludes to it in in John 1:14. Peter, James, John, Jesus, Moses, and Elijah were on the mount of transfiguration.

John the Baptist Beheaded

Description of Coloring Page: the evil of mankind made obvious, Herod and Herodias holding the head of the baptist, John the baptist martyred, Scriptural reference for this coloring page is Matthew 14: 1-12

14 At that time Herod the tetrarch heard the reports about Jesus, and he said to his attendants, “This is John the Baptist; he has risen from the dead! That is why miraculous powers are at work in him.”
Now Herod had arrested John and bound him and put him in prison because of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, for John had been saying to him: “It is not lawful for you to have her.” Herod wanted to kill John, but he was afraid of the people, because they considered John a prophet.
On Herod’s birthday the daughter of Herodias danced for the guests and pleased Herod so much that he promised with an oath to give her whatever she asked. Prompted by her mother, she said, “Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist.” The king was distressed, but because of his oaths and his dinner guests, he ordered that her request be granted 10 and had John beheaded in the prison. 11 His head was brought in on a platter and given to the girl, who carried it to her mother. 12 John’s disciples came and took his body and buried it. Then they went and told Jesus.
