       "Acting is fun! You've probably been an actor yourself in plays at school, so you know that. And you've seen friends act in plays. You may even have been to a large city theater, watched the big curtain roll slowly up, seen the make-believe world on stage and heard the thrilling applause. You know how exciting acting can be.
       But there's more to theater than just the characters on the stage. A lot of people help to make a play, and the work they do is exciting, too. The playwright writes the play in the first place. The director coaches the players until they know their parts perfectly. The scene designer plans the stage settings. The stage manager sees that the right scene and the right actors appear at the right time. And backstage workers have charge of costumes, or of making up the actor's faces to fit their parts. They change the scenery, raise and lower the curtain, and have countless other jobs. Theaters are fascinating.
       You can have your own theater - with puppets. You can decide the plays to be given - you can write them if you wish. You can be the director, the one who designs the costumes, changes the scenery, rolls up the curtain, arranges the lighting. You can be everything - even the actor! For you are the one who brings the puppet to life. It is only a limp little doll until you pick it up. You are the one who makes it laugh and joke and play a thousand tricks.
